Boca de Sama
Nestled in the beautiful Bahia de Sama (Sama Bay), Boca de Sama (which translate to "mouth of Sama Bay") is a quiet fishing village on the north coast of Holguin province, about 8 km east from Guardalavaca, and 68 km from the provincial capital, Holguin City. This rural settlement belongs to the Banes municipality. A trip to this charming little village allows visitors to learn more about the life of rural communities in Cuba.
Here you can visit a primary school, a doctor's office, fruits gardens, and a country house where you can taste coffee prepared the old-fashioned way. Nearby is the Marina Marlin, from where one can go on various nautical excursions (diving, fishing, catamaran cruising, speed boat adventure, etc.)
Near the village, you will also see the Monument to the victims of state terrorism in Cuba made of white marble and commemorating the brutal terrorist attack on Boca de Sama on October 12th, 1971 by the Florida-based Alpha66 cell, funded and following orders from the CIA and anti-Cuban organizations.
How to get there:
You can get to the village on your own (taxi, rented vehicle, etc.), or you can book a guided excursion from the tour representatives at your hotel, transfers included. See our Tours & Excursions section for more details.
