Public Transportation in Holguin's resort areas
Guardalavaca Bus Tour (hop-on/hop-off)
These open-top double decker buses are a comfortable and economical way to stroll around the resort areas. They runs from Aldea Taina (a Taino village replica) and Playa Guardalavaca (market) to every resort on Playa Esmeralda, Playa Yuraguanal (aka Playa Turquesa), and Playa Pesquero. The ticket costs 5 USD per day per person with unlimited access, you buy the ticket on the bus. The schedule is displayed at the entrance of each hotel (here are examples: Bus sign at hotel Paradisus, Bus sign in Guardalavaca). Its loop itinerary includes a stop at every all-inclusive hotel, commercial centers, handicraft market and tourist points of interest. Note that these buses do not go to the dolphinarium (Delfinario Cayo Naranjo), nor Playa Blanca and Playa Don Lino (Hotel Islazul Don Lino).
Holguin Bus Tour
This bus shuttles every day between Holguin resorts and Holguin City (capital of the province). Departure time is around 8:30 am for Playa Guardalavaca hotels, and around 9:00 am for Playa Esmeralda, Playa Yuraguanal and Playa Pesquero hotels; arriving approximately 10:00 am at Calixto Garcia Park in downtown Holguin. The return from Holguin is at 1:00 pm. The ticket costs 15 USD return per person. This tour allows you to enjoy some free time in Holguin to discover some points of interest of this city nicknamed "the city of parks".
Land Train Guardalavaca-Sama
This little "train" runs once a day between Playa Guardalavaca and Boca de Sama (a picturesque fishing village). It's a 2-hour trip including time to visit the village. The ticket costs 10 USD per person. Departure from Guardalavaca is at 10:30 am Bus Sign. If you're staying in another resort area (such as Playa Pesquero, Playa Esmeralda or Playa Yuraguanal), you'll need to take a taxi or the hop-on hop-off bus to get to Guardalavaca.
Taxis
You'll find them in front of each hotel, shopping centers, markets and most other tourist services and points of interest. For a transfer to Holguin Airport, it is suggested to book at least 24 hours in advance. There are two types of taxis, the government owned taxi and the "taxi particular"(private taxi), many of the latter are restored 1950's American classic cars locally called "Maquina" or "Yank Tank". Always agree on the fare with the driver before leaving.
Horse-drawn carriages (coches de caballo)
Carriage rides are offered throughout Holguin's resort areas, you'll find them everywhere. Prices are from about 15 USD and up, depending on the distance traveled. You pay directly to the conductor.
