Pinares de Mayari (Mayari Pinegroves)
This large eco-tourism area, part of the Mensura National Park, is located at the east-end of Holguin province, about 2-hour drive from the popular beach resorts around Guardalavaca. This is a paradise for nature lovers and active adventurer with activities such as hiking, horseback riding, birdwatching.
This territory is covered by extensive pine forests, rivers, mountains and waterfalls, including the Salto del Guayabo, one of the highest waterfall in Cuba. Within the pinewoods is an eco-lodge, Villa Pinares de Mayari, proposing many nature activities to visitors and guests who spend the night in one of their 26 Alpine-modeled huts. Near the lodge, attractions include: the Hacienda La Mensura (Mensura Farm) where they breed imported animals such as antelopes and deers, the La Plancha coffee plantation, and a small lake named El Cupey.
How to get there:
You can go to Pinares de Mayari on your own (taxi or rented vehicle), or as part of a guided tour that you can book with the tour representatives at you hotel. See our Excursions section for more details.
