Delfinario Cayo Naranjo

The Cayo Naranjo Dolphinarium is located in the Bahia de Naranjo Nature Park, a vast ecological reserve near the resort areas. It can only be accessed by boat (10 minutes boat ride) or catamaran. See interactive map at the bottom of the page. It's managed by the Marina Gaviota Oriente (part of the Grupo de Turismo Gaviota S.A.). They feature various interaction programs and shows with trained dolphins and sea lions.

The delfinario has large semi-natural marine enclosures (sea pens) in the middle of the bay, allowing the marine mammals to be held in natural seawater and interact with other species of the marine biodiversity.

There are 2 shows areas, one for dolphins, one for sea lions. Other services found at the Delfinario include: a bar, a restaurant serving lunch and dinner, a boutique, bathrooms, a professional photo service, sundecks with loungers, and accommodation. The Villa Cayo Naranjo (aka Bungalow Birancito) is a fully-equipped 2-bedroom house built on a key next to the dolphinarium.

You can book these Dolphinarium excursions with the tour representatives at your hotel. There are other options that include lunch or dinner, as well as many other excursions (in catamarans or land tours) that include a visit to the dolphinarium in their program for an interaction with dolphins, see our Excursions section for more details.

During the interaction a professional photographer will take many pictures (or videos) of you with your new marine friends. You may buy these photos/video (on a CD or DVD) from the on-site Photo-Shop, if you wish.
We recommend that you verify the content of the CD or DVD before leaving to make sure the pictures/videos were transferred correctly to the disk. A few people have reported receiving a non-functioning or empty disk.

Notes:
• The dolphins show area has shaded seats, but not the sea lions show area.
• Swimming with dolphins is not suitable for pregnant women and for persons with physical disabilities.
• Infants (0-24 months) cannot swim with dolphins, children from 2 to 7 years old must be accompanied by an adult.
• There is no charge to use your own camera or video camera.
When interacting with dolphins...
• Don't wear jewelry as it may hurt the dolphins' skin.
• Do not have suntan lotion recently applied as it may affect the dolphins' sight.
• Wearing a life jacket is mandatory. Wearing diving fins and masks is not allowed.
