Salto del Guayabo (Guayabo Falls)
This impressive waterfall (one of the highest in Cuba) is the main attraction of the Mensura National Park. This landscape is nested within the Pinares de Mayari plateau southeast of the Mayari Municipality; about 2 hours from the popular beach resorts near Guardalavaca. It's 546 meters above sea level, the Guayabo Fall is formed of two waterfalls, with vertical falls of 85 and 127 meters respectively, that are join at the top. Its waters come from the Guayabo River.
Trails through the tropical forest with pine trees and dozens of orchid and fern species lead to a Mirador (lookout) for spectacular views of the waterfall, and to the Pozas de Rafael (Rafael puddles) where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in these natural pools at the bottom of the falls. Knowledgeable guides accompany visitors along the trails and provide ample information about the habitat and story of the area. There's a restaurant on-site.
How to get there:
You can get to the Guayabo Falls on your own (taxi, rented vehicle), or as part of a guided tour (such as Jeep Safaris and nature tours) that you can book with the tour representatives at you hotel. See our Excursions section for more details.
Entrance fee: 5 USD /person.
