Museo Indocubano Bani (Indocuban Bani Museum)
This museum is located in the town of Banes, 40-50 km from the resort areas near Guardalavaca and Rafael Freyre. It houses the largest collection of objects (more than 20,000 pieces) from pre-Columbian cultures in Cuba, which can be traced back over 8000 years. More than a third of the aboriginal remains discovered in Cuba so far come from this region, which has earned Banes the title of archaeological capital of Cuba.
Are displayed in this small museum numerous ritual and domestic objects of great value, including a golden fertility idol unearthed near Banes (one of only 20 gold artifacts ever found in Cuba). Outside the museum you’ll find the Playa Aborigen featuring replicas of local cave carvings.
