The type of electric current supplied in the rooms of every all-inclusive resort in Holguin is 220 Volts, and in many cases there's a dual-voltage power outlet (110/120V - 220/240V) in the bathroom.

In the bedroom: 220 Volts power outlets (All resorts)

220 Volts bedroom outlet in Holguin resorts The electrical outlets were cleverly designed so they can take both flat-prongs plugs (North American-style) and round-prongs plugs (aka Europlug). But an adapter may still be required depending on which country you're coming from (like UK, etc.), or if you device has a polarised plug (one prong larger than the other) or a grounding pin. for more information see the Adapter section below.

In the bathroom: dual voltage outlet 110/120V - 220/240V (Most resorts):

Dual-voltage bathroom outlet in most Holguin's resorts In many resorts, a dual-voltage power outlet can be found in the bathroom, either on the bathroom wall or on the hair dryer wall mount. They sometimes have a slider button to choose between 110-120V or 220-240V. But please note that these are low-power outlets (aka Shavers Only Outlet), so they are suitable ONLY for low-watt devices such as battery chargers, shavers, etc., but NOT to plug a hair dryer, curling iron, straightener, or any other high-watt devices.

Where can I plug my device? What should I bring (converter, adapter...)?

CONVERTERS / TRANSFORMERS

FIRST, check if you device is DUAL-VOLTAGE.
Many modern devices are, especially electronics. If it's the case then it will be marked 100-240V or 110-240V on it. If your device is dual-voltage, then you won't need a voltage-converter.

If your device is NOT dual-voltage and works only on 110-120 Volts:
For high-power devices (hair dryer, curling iron, flat iron, etc.): You need to bring a Voltage-Converter suitable for high-watt devices, and should plug it in the bedroom outlets, NOT in a bathroom "Shaver Only" outlet.
For electronic devices: You need to bring a Transformer (voltage-converter for low-watt devices), and you'll be able to plug it in any outlet (bedroom or bathroom). Many converters operate as both a converter for high-watt electrical devices AND a transformer for low-watt electronic devices; they are the most convenient if you travel with both electronic devices and high-draw appliances that generate heat.

If your device is NOT dual-voltage and works only on 220-240 Volts:
You won't need any converter or transformer. If it's a high-watt device (hairdryer, iron, etc.), you should plug it the bedroom outlets. If it's a low-watt device (electronics, shaver, etc.), you can plug it in any socket (bedroom or bathroom).

ADAPTERS

Do not confuse adapters and converters, an adapter does not convert voltage; it simply allows an electric device from one country to be physically plugged into the electric outlets of another country.

Outlet (wall socket) found in the Jardines del Rey:
All hotels have at least a combined: Type A and C outlet, or, Type A, B and C outlet
Some hotels have a combined Type A, B, C and L outlet.

So if your electric device has a plug that don't fit in a type A or C socket, then you may need an adapter.

Here's a quick guide based on plug type (click thumbnails to see a larger image) (see *Note below) :

Type A plug If your appliance has a Type A plug
No adapter needed, OK for all hotels

Type B plug If your appliance has a Type B plug
Adapter may be needed, not every hotel has a type B outlet (with ground hole)

Type C plug If your appliance has a Type C plug (europlug)
No adapter needed, OK for all hotels

Type E plug If your appliance has a Type E plug
No adapter needed, can fit in a type C outlet but won't be grounded

Type F plug If your appliance has a Type F plug
No adapter needed, can fit in a type C outlet but won't be grounded

Type L plug If your appliance has a Type L plug
Adapter may be needed, not every hotel has a type L socket (with ground hole)

*Note: If your electric device has a plug different from the 6 above, then for sure you'll need an adapter.

Here are some examples based on country of origin:

No adapter are usually needed for travelers from:

Canada, USA, Mexico, France, Spain, Italy (if type C or F plug), Germany, Netherlands, Argentina (if type C plug), Venezuela, Colombia, Peru, Chile (if type C plug), Panama, Brazil (if type C plug)

(But a voltage-converter may be needed, see above)

Adapter needed for travelers from:

United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Denmark, Italy (if type L plug), Argentina (if type I plug), Chile (if type L plug), Brazil (if type N plug), Hong Kong

(And a voltage-converter may also be needed, see above)

EXTENSION CORD

Note that in some hotels the mirrors are not always close to an electrical outlet, so if you're bringing a hair-styling device (curling iron, flat iron, etc.) and need a mirror to see what you're doing, we then suggest bringing an extension cord, just in case.
